About Kartheeka Pournami
Kartheeka Pournami is the full moon of the Kartika month — one of the most sacred nights in the Telugu calendar. Devotees light lamps at home and in temples, fast, and take ritual baths in rivers and tanks.
Deep Daan
The central ritual is Deep Daan — floating clay lamps on water bodies. Rivers, tanks, and lakes across Telangana are illuminated with thousands of floating lamps on Kartheeka Pournami night.
Kartheeka Masam
The entire month of Kartika is considered sacred for Shiva worship. Devotees light a lamp (Kartheeka Deepam) at home each evening throughout the month.
Significance
The month of Kartika and its full moon are particularly associated with Vishnu's emergence from cosmic sleep (Prabodhini Ekadashi) and with Shiva. Both Vaishnava and Shaiva traditions observe this month with special significance.
