Dasara (Vijayadashami) దసరా
September–October (10th day of Navaratri)
About Dasara
Dasara (Vijayadashami) marks the victory of good over evil — specifically Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura, and Rama's victory over Ravana. In Telangana, it coincides with the end of Bathukamma (the final day of immersion).
Telangana Dasara
In Telangana, Dasara is celebrated as Saddula Bathukamma — the culminating day of the Bathukamma festival. Women carry their Bathukamma floral stacks to the nearest water body (tank, lake, or river) and immerse them, bidding farewell to the goddess.
Processions
Dasara processions featuring decorated elephants, folk performers, and cultural troupes take place in Hyderabad and district headquarters.
Saraswati Puja
Students and professionals worship their books, instruments, and tools on Navami (the day before Vijayadashami) as Saraswati Puja.
Ayudha Puja
Vehicles, machines, and tools are worshipped on Dasara day as Ayudha Puja — a tradition across South India.
