Pochampally Ikat

Pochampally Ikat is a GI-tagged handwoven silk and cotton textile from Bhoodan Pochampally village, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. The weaving tradition involves resist-dyeing — binding threads before dyeing to create geometric patterns that emerge when the threads are woven.

Double Ikat

The Pochampally tradition is famous for double ikat — where both warp and weft threads are resist-dyed before weaving. This requires exceptional skill in aligning patterns during weaving. Very few textile traditions worldwide practice double ikat.

GI Tag

Pochampally Ikat received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag from the Government of India in 2004.

UNESCO Recognition

In 2020, Pochampally village was selected as one of the best tourism villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
