Perini Sivatandavam

Perini Sivatandavam is an ancient warrior dance form of Telangana, revived in the 20th century. Historically, it was performed before the armies of the Kakatiya dynasty before going to battle, as an offering to Lord Shiva.

Characteristics

The dance is energetic and martial, performed by men. It involves vigorous footwork (ghungroo-adorned anklets), dramatic jumps, and poses that evoke Shiva's cosmic dance (Tandava).

The Kakatiya Connection

Petals of bronze figurines showing the dance pose have been found at the Ramappa Temple site (UNESCO World Heritage Site), evidence of its Kakatiya-era origins.
