Cheriyal Scroll Painting

Cheriyal scroll paintings are a GI-tagged folk art tradition from Cheriyal village, Siddipet district. Originally used by Naqashi storytellers (Kinnera Nakashis) as visual aids for reciting mythological stories, these paintings use bold red, yellow, black, and white on hand-spun khadi cloth.

Style

Cheriyal paintings are distinguished by their distinctive style: flat figures in profile, bold outlines, bright primary colours, and episodic narrative frames telling stories from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and local legends.
